Join Us in Shaping a Sustainable Future
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Senior Project Officer to join the University of Sussex Business School, supporting a vital international research project funded by DEFRA:
Exploring Sustainable Land Use Pathways for Ecosystems, Food Security, and Poverty Alleviation: Opportunities for Indonesia’s Food Estate Program.
This pioneering, interdisciplinary initiative seeks to address the environmental and social implications of large-scale food estate schemes. The project aims to co-develop innovative, sustainable land use strategies that balance biodiversity, climate resilience, and food security while empowering local communities.
Your Role
As Senior Project Officer, you will be at the heart of the project’s coordination and delivery. You’ll work closely with researchers, international collaborators, local farming communities, and policymakers to:
- Manage project administration and operations
- Lead stakeholder engagement and communication activities
- Coordinate participatory research and capacity-building workshops
- Support the development of an open-access mapping and modelling tool for sustainable land use planning
This role offers a unique chance to contribute to transformative research with real-world impact, advancing evidence-based solutions to global sustainability challenges.
About You
We’re looking for an organised, proactive, and collaborative individual with a track record of managing international research projects. Ideally, your experience lies within sustainability, land use planning, or environmental policy.
You should bring:
- Strong project management and communication skills
- The ability to work effectively across diverse stakeholder groups
- A detail-oriented, solution-driven approach
- A genuine passion for addressing complex global issues such as climate change, biodiversity loss, and food insecurity
If you thrive in a fast-paced, interdisciplinary environment and want to make a difference, we’d love to hear from you.
