Job Description
JOB SUMMARY
As a member of the Sport Development Team, you will be in charge of developing the University of Glasgow’s Netball Club. You will be in charge of training our Performance and Development squads, as well as the first team on match days, which are normally on Wednesdays in local leagues and on weekends in British Universities and Colleges (BUCS) and national league games. In addition, you will help to recruit and develop self-employed and volunteer coaches for the club’s other six teams. You will collaborate with the Performance Sport Manager, Club Committees and other members of the Sport Development Team to recruit international standard student athletes and raise the performance level of the UofG Netball Club to the highest level in national and student competitions.
Main duties and responsibilities
1. Inspire and lead the Netball programme by communicating the strategic vision and ensuring that staff and volunteers are contributing to the larger UofG Sport and University goals.
2. Develop programs for all squads at Glasgow University Netball Club to promote high performance and player development in conjunction with full-time studies.
3. Oversee the Performance and Development Squad training sessions throughout the playing season, keeping high performance and player development at the forefront of each session.
4. In charge of monitoring the coaching infrastructure across the clubs, including the recruitment of additional coaches to support the plan and ensuring that all squads receive sufficient coaching. This involves long-term planning for coach provision, such as a coach education program to recruit, train, and retain self-employed and volunteer coaches.
5. Create and implement GUNC Netball camps for the local community, which will provide employment possibilities for student netball coaches and raise revenue for reinvestment in the program.
6. Meet the annual Key Performance Indicators agreed upon with the University of Glasgow Sport Leadership Team in accordance with the strategic goals of UofG Sport and the Glasgow University Sports Association (GUSA).
7. In charge of program monitoring and assessment, as well as identifying new initiatives and program aspects to ensure that the program remains professional and motivated.
8. To collaborate successfully with other colleagues, particularly those who administer the curriculum, and to leverage available knowledge in areas such as strength and conditioning.
9. Represent the University Netball Programme by advocating for and actively recruiting the best prospective student athletes to the University.
10. Contribute to the creation and implementation of new service and UofG Sport development projects, finding ideas that enhance the student experience and/or service efficacy.
11. Responsible for mentoring all coaches involved in the program and providing appropriate support systems to help coaches reach their full potential.
12. Maintain and acquire relevant professional understanding of current netball issues at the local, national, and worldwide levels, as well as advocate the university’s interests at national, regional, and local meetings and conferences.
13. Foster relationships with key internal and external departments and organisations to enhance service delivery and program quality, such as Development and Alumni, Recruitment, MVLS Exercise Science Departments, Scottish Student Sport, sportscotland, Netball Scotland, Strathclyde Sirens, and BUCS.
14. Foster collaborations with local communities to create mutually advantageous links that align with the University’s strategic goals for local engagement and program growth.
15. Ensure that the welfare of all club members and coaches is constantly prioritised, and provide guidance for strengthening welfare practices across the club.
Knowledge, Qualifications, Skills, and Experience
Knowledge/Qualifications
Essential:
A1 SCQF Level 8 (HND, SVQ4) or equivalent, plus experience in personal development in a similar function.
A2 UKCC Level 2 Netball Coach (or comparable qualification).
A3 A full, clean driver’s licence.
A4 Current First Aid Qualification (minimum Emergency First Aid) or ability to get accredited status prior to starting the role.
A5 Thorough knowledge and comprehension of the organisation and structure of British / Scottish Student Sport, including competitive programming, opportunities, and structural organisation.
A6 Thorough knowledge and grasp of the organisation and structure of Netball Scotland.
A7 Detailed comprehension of university netball.
Desirable:
B1 Degree-level education.
B2 UKCC Level 3 Netball Coach.
B3 UKCC Level 2 Strength and Conditioning (or an equivalent).
B4 Understanding of current trends in the sport/performance sport sector.
B5 Knowledge and experience using video analysis software to increase performance.

E4 Demonstrable experience developing, monitoring, and reviewing high-performance training programs.
E5 Proven experience in leading, mentoring, and developing other coaches.

E7 Proven experience handling budgets.
E8 Experience in establishing, reviewing, and improving components of the student experience (or similar).

Terms & Conditions.
The salary will be Grade 6, £32,332 – £36,024 per year pro rata.
This is a part-time position (21 hours per week) with a set term of up to two years.
