You will provide clinically focused and creative pharmacy services to Renal patients at the Heartlands hospital. Part of your responsibilities will include attending renal outpatient clinics and assisting patients with their complex medication needs. You will also be responsible for assessing and creating guidelines, managing risks, and providing education and training.

Main responsibilities, tasks, and abilities required

To provide highly specialised clinical chemist input into the Renal specialty.

To provide, develop, and evaluate specialised clinical pharmacy services to Renal patients at Heartlands. You will work clinically on our inpatient and outpatient wards, offering high-quality pharmaceutical treatment and advice.

To promote the development of innovative medicines and technology for the treatment of a wide range of renal disorders.

To work as an independent prescriber, initiating and optimising treatments. You will be assisted in completing your NMP or, if already completed, expanding your expertise in this sector.

To support the specialisation and department, provide audits, quality improvement projects, and cost improvement programmes.

To provide education and training on medication in renal disease to various healthcare personnel, including junior doctors, nurses, and pharmacy staff.

You will be part of a large specialist pharmaceutical team that covers a wide range of disciplines. You will be supported by a team of experienced chemists as you develop and move into leadership, management, and operational roles.

Depending on experience and credentials, there is the option to advance from senior support pharmacist (band 7) to Specialist Clinical Pharmacist (band 8a) or to begin at this level. A systematic development programme uses specific criteria to ensure you are supported and gain critical skills and knowledge before moving into the specialist profession.

Person Specification

Qualifications

Essential

*A vocational master’s degree in pharmacy (or similar).

*Membership in the General Pharmaceutical Council

*Has obtained a postgraduate clinical pharmacy certification or comparable advanced practice.

*Be willing to pursue a non-medical prescribing qualification.

Desirable

*Completed a non-medical prescribing course and registered as an NMP with the GPhC.

*Working towards Level I Faculty Membership with the RPS.

Experience

Essential

*Have significant clinical knowledge in complex clinical pharmacy settings.

*Previous participation in a multidisciplinary team.

*Shows dedication and enthusiasm for providing high-quality pharmaceutical treatment.

*Experience educating or presenting to other healthcare professionals or patients.

*Commitment to owning Continuing Professional Development (CPD).

*Experience providing Renal Medicine services
