Job Description

Cardiff Steiner School is seeking an experienced Secondary/Upper School Teacher to join our collaborative team in our vibrant and confident young school.

Apply now – open until filled.

We are able to sponsor visas for applicants from outside the UK.

This role is ideal for a Secondary/Upper School Teacher capable of teaching English to Classes 8 to 12, with a specialism in the Humanities (e.g., History, Philosophy, History of Art, Drama). We also welcome applications from Steiner Class Teachers with experience in teaching Classes 6 to 8 who are looking to transition to an Upper School role.

A teaching qualification in Steiner education is desirable, but we also encourage applicants with QTS who are interested in training as Steiner teachers.

You will be working with the Steiner Waldorf curriculum and the Certificate of Steiner Education (NZCSE) – a qualification equivalent to A Levels, accepted by UCAS and recognized by universities in the UK and internationally.

As part of the Upper School Coordination team, this is a unique opportunity to contribute to the development of our Upper School and positively impact the lives of young people, free from the constraints of GCSE and A Level curricula and examinations.

The Upper School Coordination role is shared by two full-time teachers who collaborate closely. You will also receive support from our founding Upper School Coordinator, Ian Powell, who will be transitioning to a part-time teaching role after seven years. This support may include training in the design and delivery of the NZCSE.

About Us

Located in Cardiff, the capital city of Wales, our school offers a complete Kindergarten to Class 12 Steiner Waldorf education. Founded in 1997, we expanded to Upper School in 2017, offering the New Zealand Certificate of Steiner Education (NZCSE), with our first Class 12 graduating in 2021.

The NZCSE is the first transnational secondary school qualification fully based on the Steiner curriculum. It is an alternative to GCSEs and A Levels, recognized by UCAS and accepted by both UK and international universities. This qualification provides our students with a pathway to further and higher education without the limitations of traditional examination-based curricula.

Our diverse, international teaching team embodies a pioneering spirit, rising to the challenges and celebrating the successes that come with a young, growing school. As a small school by design, we have cultivated a strong sense of community. Our teachers are at the heart of our success, and we’ve fostered a culture of collaboration where your contributions, enthusiasm, and talents are highly valued. You’ll also benefit from a professional development program that includes mentoring, peer observation, and training in NZCSE delivery.

We are a full-member Waldorf UK school and operate independently.

About You

You will be an experienced Teacher, preferably with experience in a Steiner Upper School, capable of teaching English and another Humanities subject through to Class 12/Level 3 (age 18/19).

You should have a proven track record of delivering engaging lessons and be skilled at adapting your teaching to accommodate differentiated learning. You will have the passion and creativity needed to support adolescents in both their academic and personal development.

With excellent subject knowledge, you will hold a degree in your specialist area or have extensive teaching experience at this level. You should have a deep understanding of Waldorf Education or the willingness to develop this understanding through training and support.

The role offers a tiered Staff Fees Discount Scheme, with up to 85% off school fees for children of staff members, based on family income (pro rata for part-time posts).
