Job Description

Are you a qualified Registered Nurse or Mental Health Nurse seeking a new opportunity in your nursing career? We are offering an exciting position with visa sponsorship available for the right candidate.

We are looking for a skilled nurse to lead our Alcohol Care Team at Musgrove Park Hospital. In this role, you will be joining a small but dedicated team of 2 other Specialist Nurses, helping provide a specialized service to patients across the entire hospital. The team works closely with Hepatology and PLT under the umbrella of Gastroenterology and is part of a wider multidisciplinary team (MDT).

The service we offer is still evolving, and we are embracing how it is adapting and growing. You will collaborate with the MDT to help expand and develop the service.

Key Responsibilities:

Day-to-day management of the Alcohol Care Team service.

Provide specialist nursing advice and support to patients, families, and carers during all stages of treatment and follow-up care.

Assess patients referred from the Emergency Department and inpatient wards, offering expert advice and referrals to community substance misuse services.

Advise on the monitoring and management of alcohol withdrawal during patient admissions.

Communicate and make clinically safe decisions regarding patient care in complex situations.

Offer a screening and brief intervention service for patients requiring intervention for harmful drinking.

Work proactively to identify patients within acute wards for early intervention, focusing on areas like the ED, acute medical unit, and surgical admissions unit.

Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, external colleagues, and alcohol liaison service users.

Liaise with colleagues across the Trust and relevant management teams.

Qualifications & Experience

Essential:

1st level Registered Nurse/Mental Health Nurse

Current NMC registration

Willingness to undertake degree-level studies in a relevant field

Mentoring qualification or equivalent experience

Minimum 2 years of experience at Band 6 or above

Desirable:

Health Promotion Course or understanding of health promotion and harm reduction

Experience:

Experience working with patients with substance misuse

Effective collaboration with multidisciplinary teams

Understanding of local and national substance misuse policies

Ability to manage complex care scenarios

Additional Criteria:

Time management and delegation skills

Confidence in supervising and teaching staff

Strong prioritization and workload management skills
