Join our dynamic Emergency Department team at Worthing Hospital, part of University Hospitals Sussex NHS Foundation Trust!
We are a busy, forward-thinking department that handles more than 100,000 patient attendances each year — with around a quarter of those being children. As a designated Trauma Unit, we manage a wide range of urgent and emergency cases in a fast-moving environment.
Our modern setup includes:
- 5 adult resuscitation bays and 1 dedicated paediatric resuscitation bay
- 30 major treatment spaces (20 trolleys + 10 chairs)
- 2 rapid assessment bays
- A specialised mental health area, supported by Registered Mental Health Nurses (RMNs) who work closely with the Sussex Partnership NHS Trust liaison team
- A separate Paediatric Emergency Department with its own child-friendly waiting area
- A brand-new Front Door Urgent Treatment Centre dedicated to minor injuries and illnesses
We are looking for passionate, resilient Band 5 Registered Nurses (Adult or Children’s) who thrive under pressure, communicate clearly, and enjoy teamwork in a challenging yet rewarding setting. While at least 1 year of emergency or acute care experience is preferred, we’re open to considering newly qualified nurses who show real enthusiasm and potential.

Key responsibilities
- Deliver safe, high-quality, evidence-based care through thorough assessment, planning, delivery, and evaluation
- Communicate compassionately and effectively with patients, families, and carers
- Collaborate closely with the multidisciplinary team, other hospital departments, and external agencies
- Occasionally take charge of a specific zone or area during shifts when senior staff are unavailable
- Act as a positive role model, upholding Trust values in every interaction
- Support learners (students and new staff) through supervision, teaching, and demonstration of best practice
- Commit to your own ongoing professional development
