Your Key Responsibilities
As an independent practitioner, you’ll handle assessments, diagnoses, and hands-on clinical care for women throughout pregnancy, labor, and the postpartum period—often without needing to involve doctors right away.
You’ll collaborate with other experts, referring patients when necessary to maintain top-notch safety and quality in care.
Delivering Exceptional Patient Care
You’ll oversee the full cycle of midwifery support: from initial evaluations and personalized planning to carrying out and reviewing care based on the latest evidence. This means guiding parents through choices like birth preferences, pain management options, breastfeeding support, newborn routines, returning to daily life, and contraception advice—even in the weeks after delivery.
Regularly assess how well the care is working, tweak plans as needed, and provide expert insights to families. Always champion your patients’ voices, helping them take charge of their health while respecting their privacy, dignity, and consent every step of the way.
When situations call for it, connect families with specialists like senior midwives, obstetricians, physiotherapists, or pediatricians if it’s outside your expertise.
