About the Role
With the global population expected to reach nine billion by 2050, the need for sustainable, nutritious food production has never been more urgent. Simultaneously, ageing populations around the world are driving a rise in non-communicable diseases such as heart disease, dementia, and cancer. At the University of Reading, our pioneering research in Agriculture, Food, and Health (AFH) addresses these pressing challenges, advancing knowledge and influencing change locally and globally.
We are now seeking a dynamic individual to join our newly formed Impact Team within the Research, Engagement and Innovation Office (REIO). Working closely with the Agriculture, Food & Health Theme, you will play a key role in embedding and enhancing our impact culture, helping to deliver tangible environmental, economic, and societal benefits from research activities.
This role offers a unique opportunity to contribute directly to the University’s Impact Strategy and the Research Excellence Framework (REF), particularly within the following Units of Assessment:
- UoA 3: Allied Health Professions, Dentistry, Nursing and Pharmacy
- UoA 4: Psychology, Psychiatry and Neuroscience
- UoA 6: Agriculture, Food and Veterinary Sciences
You will work across academic departments, collaborating with professional services and external partners to identify, support, and capture research impact. You will also help shape and drive a pipeline of impactful projects, ensuring evidence-informed contributions to policy and practice.
About You
You will bring:
- A solid understanding of research impact and the various routes through which it can be achieved
- Experience of managing projects in a research or academic setting
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to engage a broad range of stakeholders
- A collaborative working style and the ability to contribute to team-based initiatives
- Insight into the Agriculture, Food and Health sectors
- A commitment to driving continuous improvement and maximising the societal value of academic research
Who You’ll Work With
You will be joining a friendly, forward-thinking impact team in the REIO. You’ll collaborate with:
- Impact Development Managers/Officers from other themes
- Knowledge Exchange Fellows
- Research Division Leaders and Theme-specific academics
- External non-academic stakeholders
- Colleagues across the wider REIO
Your work will take place on our beautiful, green campus — a space designed to support innovation, collaboration and wellbeing.
