Help Shape the Future of Suicide Research

We are looking for a skilled Research Fellow with expertise in qualitative methods to join a bold and innovative project: Discovering Liveability: Co-producing Alternatives to Suicide Prevention. This research centres lived and living experience and aims to transform how we understand and respond to suicide by foregrounding the concept of liveability over conventional prevention models.

This is a unique opportunity to work as part of a dynamic, supportive team committed to reimagining the field of suicide research. You will contribute to the design, analysis, and dissemination of high-impact qualitative work that challenges dominant discourses and offers inclusive, community-informed perspectives.

This is a full-time, fixed-term position for 12 months. While this is not a fully remote role, we welcome requests for hybrid working arrangements involving regular on-campus presence and remote work.

What You’ll Bring

We’re looking for someone who is passionate about qualitative research and social justice, with:

  • A PhD (or near completion) in a relevant field such as sociology, social policy, or politics.
  • Demonstrated experience with qualitative research, particularly critical policy analysis.
  • Strong communication skills—both written and verbal—with a track record of producing clear, accessible, and academically rigorous outputs.
  • A developing portfolio of peer-reviewed publications or equivalent scholarly work.
  • A commitment to working collaboratively and inclusively, especially within contexts involving sensitive topics such as suicide and mental health.

Why Join Us?

As a valued member of the project team, you can expect:

  • A competitive salary and access to generous staff benefits, including pension schemes and annual leave.
  • A supportive and collegial research environment, with opportunities for collaboration and mentorship.
  • An inspiring workplace that values creativity, care, challenge, and critical thinking.
  • Access to a dedicated personal wellbeing fund throughout the project to support individual self-care needs.
  • To be part of an inclusive international community committed to making meaningful social change.

We particularly welcome applications from individuals with lived or living experiences of suicide/suicidality, and from candidates from minoritised or underrepresented backgrounds. One of our core project aims is to diversify suicide research and the knowledges, narratives, and practices that inform it.

How to Apply

When submitting your application, please ensure you include:

  1. CV – with details of your academic background, research experience, and publications.
  2. Cover Letter – outlining your motivation for applying and how your experience aligns with the essential and desirable criteria.
