Mechanical Engineering Internship – Monitoring & Diagnostics Team

Location: Lisburn, Northern Ireland
Duration: 1 Year (Full-Time Placement)
Eligibility: Open to students pursuing a degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline

About the Opportunity

Join our Monitoring and Diagnostics team in Lisburn for a unique one-year internship focused on the development of advanced technologies used to monitor electrical substation equipment. Our innovative systems help customers better understand and optimise the performance of critical assets such as power transformers, circuit breakers, and other substation components.

As an intern, you will be working closely with our Project Engineering team to support the mechanical design and development of monitoring solutions. This includes working with technologies such as On-line Dissolved Gas Analysis (DGA), Bushing Monitoring, and Circuit Breaker Monitoring. You’ll gain hands-on experience from concept development to industrialisation and have the chance to contribute to design modifications, technical drawings, and product mockups.

Key Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with the Project Engineering team on product design activities
  • Review and revise mechanical design documentation
  • Assist with updating design drawings and technical records
  • Support cross-functional engineering tasks as needed
  • Participate in mechanical prototyping and analysis

What We’re Looking For

Essential Criteria:

  • Currently pursuing a degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills in English
  • Self-motivated, proactive, and results-driven
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment
  • Good analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams
  • Willingness to learn new tools and technologies
  • Capable of presenting mechanical design analyses with clear conclusions

Desirable Skills:

  • Experience with SolidWorks, AutoCAD, or similar CAD software
  • Understanding of mechanical component design and best practices
  • Strong organisational skills and attention to detail
  • Additional language proficiency is a plus
