About the Role

The Department of Mechatronics and Biomedical Engineering within the School of Engineering & Innovation at Aston University is seeking to appoint a Lecturer in Mechanical Engineering. This is an exciting opportunity to join a forward-thinking team with a strong focus on research and high-quality, student-centred teaching.

We are particularly interested in candidates with expertise in solid mechanics and a strong or emerging research profile in structural analysis, including:

  • Computer-Aided Design (CAD)
  • Mathematical Modelling
  • Finite Element Analysis (FEA)
  • Structural Optimisation

In this role, you will contribute to both our teaching and research missions, playing a key part in delivering core topics in CAD, FEA, and mechanical modelling—particularly around deformation, stress, strain, and failure mechanics, supported by related lab-based activities.

What We’re Looking For

Candidates must hold:

  • A first degree and a PhD in Mechanical Engineering or a closely related discipline
  • A teaching qualification such as PGCHE or fellowship status with Advance HE (FHEA), or a willingness to achieve this once appointed

You should also demonstrate:

  • Proven ability to design and deliver engaging lectures and tutorials
  • A track record of teaching excellence and positive student feedback
  • Familiarity with Virtual Learning Environments (VLEs) such as Blackboard or Moodle
  • Commitment to supporting and mentoring students through personal tutoring and pastoral care

Your Responsibilities Will Include

  • Designing and delivering high-quality learning materials
  • Teaching and assessing students across multiple formats (lectures, tutorials, individual projects)
  • Supporting departmental operations and initiatives
  • Participating in outreach, open days, and recruitment activities
  • Leading or contributing to key operational areas where appropriate
