Job Purpose

The Continuous Improvement Project Manager oversees continuous improvement throughout the College of Social Sciences (CoSS). Working together with the Continuous Improvement Manager, the Continuous Improvement Project Lead will deliver the framework that will enable us to identify areas of operational efficiency, promote process reviews, and implement long-term improvements.

Main duties and responsibilities

1. Assist the Continuous Improvement Manager in creating and implementing a consistent strategy to continuous improvement throughout CoSS.

2. Work closely with the Transformation Business Partner to ensure that continuous improvement projects are in line with transformational change strategies.

3. Lead process review meetings, which include creating process maps, identifying risks and inefficiencies, and suggesting improvements.

4. Perform project management tasks such as establishing timelines, coordinating resources, and tracking progress. Manage all project documentation and, if necessary, report to project boards or steering groups.

5. Implementation of the University’s risk policy to identify, assess, monitor, and actively manage risks, whether in a small standalone project or as part of a larger Project Delivery team supporting workstreams across a complex programme.

6. Provide regular updates to stakeholders to assess project effectiveness and ensure transparency.

7. Assist the Continuous Improvement Manager in developing a culture of continuous improvement by encouraging understanding and engagement among CoSS colleagues.

8. Help to strengthen staff capability by providing development opportunities and contributing to a community of practice for continuous improvement.

9. Network, share best practices, and build change and improvement ties throughout the University, particularly with the Transformation and Project Delivery Teams.

10. Evaluate and keep up with market best practices for new and upcoming continuous improvement approaches and procedures.

Knowledge, qualifications, skills, and experience.

Knowledge/Qualifications

Essential:

A1 Scottish Credit and Qualification Framework level 9,10, or 11 (Ordinary/Honours Degree, Post Graduate Qualification), or equivalent, including professional qualifications in related disciplines and extensive professional experience in continuous improvement management roles.

A2 Strong knowledge and grasp of continuous improvement theory and practice.

A3 Experience with complete project delivery.

A4 A thorough understanding of the project lifecycle, as well as common project management strategies and methodologies.

Desirable:

B1 Project Management qualification.

B2 Understanding of agile project delivery.

B3 Relevant Technical/Professional Improvement Qualifications (such as Lean/Sigma/Operational Excellence).

B4 Understanding of Higher Education Organisations, Mission, and Infrastructure.

Experience

Essential:

C1 Relevant experience managing projects over the whole project lifecycle.

C2 Relevant experience delivering continuous improvement projects.

C3 Relevant experience with Lean/other improvement methodologies.

C4 Extensive experience providing analytical insight to support high-quality decision making.

Desirable:

D1 Experience working in higher education or a similar multi-stakeholder organisation.

Skills

Essential:

E1 Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities.

E2 Demonstrated people management and motivating skills in both formal and informal settings.

E3 Ability to encourage and motivate people to deliver outputs or achieve mutual goals

E4 Ability to manage multiple complex workstreams simultaneously and on time.

E5 Demonstrates the capacity to engage non-subject matter experts in the application of conventional continuous improvement tools and methodologies.

Terms & Conditions.

The annual salary for Grade 7 will range between £39,347 and £44,263.

This position is full-time (35 hours per week) and open-ended (permanent).
