About the Role

We are seeking a skilled and experienced Maintenance Manager to lead the delivery of planned, preventative, and reactive maintenance services across our estate. Based on our Glasgow campus, with travel to our Forres site as needed, this is a key leadership role within the Estates Department.

As Maintenance Manager, you will be responsible for ensuring the efficient operation of building systems and infrastructure, while supporting the wider strategic goals of the Estates team.

Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee the delivery of planned, preventative, and reactive maintenance, using in-house teams and external contractors.
  • Ensure that all plant, equipment, and systems function effectively to support uninterrupted learning, teaching, and institutional operations.
  • Develop and implement an annual maintenance programme aligned to budget and timescales.
  • Manage statutory testing and compliance activities (e.g. PAT, fixed wiring, gas safety, asbestos management).
  • Support emergency systems in collaboration with Facilities and Fire Safety teams.
  • Contribute to capital works, minor project delivery, and long-term estate planning.
  • Liaise with Facilities and Residences Managers on environmental control, condition surveys, and refurbishment planning.
  • Lead a small team including a Maintenance Officer and two Building Technicians.

About You

Essential Qualifications and Experience:

  • Ideally trade-qualified, preferably as a senior electrician.
  • Extensive experience in a multi-disciplinary estates or facilities environment, ideally within higher education or a comparable institution.
  • Sound understanding of building systems, engineering services, and energy management platforms.
  • Strong working knowledge of statutory compliance in areas such as electrical/gas safety, water hygiene, asbestos, and fire safety.
  • Practical experience with budget management, procurement, and contractor oversight.
  • Professional or technical qualifications in building or facilities management.
  • NEBOSH or equivalent health and safety certification.

  • Proficient in relevant IT systems, including Microsoft Office and Building Management Systems.
  • Capable of managing helpdesk operations and responding to service requests efficiently.
