The University of Sussex is hiring a Commercial Contracts Manager to support our expanding portfolio of research and knowledge exchange projects. About the Role
As a key member of our Contracts Team in the Research and Enterprise Services Division, you will:
- Support contract negotiations for industry-sponsored research, with a focus on the Innovation and Business Partnership team.
- Assist with cross-University, interdisciplinary grant-funded projects.
- Engage with funders, project collaborators, and attend meetings as needed.
- Deliver clear, practical advice to stakeholders while managing contract risks.
This role is central to helping the University deliver on its research, impact, and commercialisation goals.
What We’re Looking For
We’re seeking someone with:
- A strong background in reviewing, drafting, and negotiating commercial research contracts, including multi-party consortium agreements.
- Solid knowledge of intellectual property (IP) rights, contract law, data protection, and export control regulations.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
- Proven ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines independently and collaboratively.
You should be degree-qualified or bring equivalent professional experience from higher education, industry, or legal practice.
