The University of Glasgow, ranked among the world’s top 100 universities and named Scottish University of the Year 2024 by the Times & Sunday Times Good University Guide, is seeking a talented Digital Library Systems Developer to join our dynamic Information Services team.

About the Role

You will be part of the Digital Library Team, contributing to the development and support of digital access platforms for globally significant research collections. These platforms enable high-impact scholarship, teaching, and open research across disciplines.

Reporting to the Head of Library Systems & Platforms, you will collaborate closely with Library Collections and technical colleagues to design, develop, and enhance digital repository and library systems that align with the University’s strategic goals in research and education.

Key Responsibilities

Develop and maintain digital library and repository applications.

Work across open-source and commercial environments with a focus on LAMP-based stacks.

Solve interoperability and data integration challenges to improve content discovery, management, and reuse.

Apply your knowledge of metadata standards, digital preservation, and repository protocols (e.g. OAI-PMH, Dublin Core, METS, etc.).

Partner with colleagues to deliver user-friendly, accessible digital collections and services.

About You

We’re looking for someone with:

Strong web development skills and experience with distributed applications.

A solid understanding of digital library systems, preferably within higher education or cultural heritage.

Familiarity with open-source repository platforms such as DSpace, Fedora, or Samvera.

A passion for developing innovative digital solutions that support research and learning.
