Part-time hours available, up to a maximum of 0.5 FTE / 18.25 hours per week. Flexible working requests will be considered (subject to business requirements).

Salary:
Grade 6, starting at £34,132 to £38,249 per annum, pro-rata for part-time roles.

About the Role
CHASE (Consortium for the Humanities and the Arts, South East England) includes leading universities such as Birkbeck, The Courtauld Institute of Art, Goldsmiths, SOAS, and the Universities of East Anglia, Essex, Kent, and Sussex.

As the Senior Research Finance Officer, you’ll be responsible for managing the post-award finances of the £22.5m CHASE grant that funds PGR studentships and training. Your role will involve collaborating with the CHASE team, research finance colleagues, and administrative teams across the consortium. Key responsibilities include:

  • Providing management accounting information
  • Assessing the eligibility of spending
  • Forecasting and monitoring expenditure to ensure budget compliance
  • Maintaining accurate financial records
  • Reviewing financial processes
  • Promoting best practices in managing grant finances across the consortium

You will play a crucial role in ensuring that the University adheres to the funder’s terms and conditions.

About You
You should be highly numerate, with strong Excel and management accounting skills, as well as the ability to interpret contractual documentation. Your excellent communication and interpersonal skills will help you engage effectively with academic staff, auditors, and external stakeholders, including funding bodies. Previous experience in research finance or an accountancy qualification (or working towards one) is desirable.
