Editorial Manager – Open Press University of Sussex (OPUS)
Location: Brighton, UK
Contract Type: Fixed Term (Maternity cover until 28 June 2026)
Hours: Full-time up to 37.5 hours per week. Flexible working requests will be considered, subject to business needs.
Salary: Grade 7 – starting from £38,249 to £45,413 per annum (pro rata if part-time)
Expected Interview Date: 9 May 2025 (TBC)
Expected Start Date: June 2025
About the Role
We are offering a unique opportunity to manage and further develop Open Press University of Sussex (OPUS)—our Diamond Open Access press—during a period of maternity cover.
Hosted within the University Library, OPUS publishes a wide range of openly available books, toolkits, and Open Educational Resources (OERs), helping expand the global reach and impact of Sussex research while championing non-commercial and sustainable academic publishing models.
As Editorial Manager, you will:
- Lead the commissioning, submission, production, and promotion of all OPUS titles
- Work closely with authors and academics across all Faculties
- Contribute to the University’s strategic ambitions in Open Research
- Collaborate with the Research & Open Scholarship team to embed the press in our progressive research culture

About You
We’re looking for someone with:
- A strong understanding of the academic publishing landscape, especially in Open Access models
- Experience managing editorial workflows and publication processes
- Excellent project management, organisational, and communication skills
- A commitment to inclusive, ethical, and community-led scholarly communication
