About the role

The Acquisition, Reading List, and Metadata teams are overseen by the Content and Discovery Senior Manager, who is responsible for shaping the future of knowledge access and delivery in both digital and physical formats. This is a critical role for the Library; you will shape our content journey while ensuring the smooth integration of innovative technology and user-centred experiences. Building good partnerships with a diverse range of content providers and other stakeholders will allow you to provide effective licensing, discovery, and access to a wide range of scholarly works.

You will play an important role in redefining how content is curated and consumed, ensuring that the Library stays ahead of developing trends in academic publication, open access, and user expectations. Leading a bright staff of about 15 FTEs, you’ll drive continual improvement and innovation while taking bold steps to increase the Library’s impact.

Operating with a multi-million-pound content budget, you’ll work with colleagues in Procurement and throughout the University to ensure a long-term financial future, all while navigating the exciting challenges of an ever-changing information world. You will collaborate with the Library Management Team to deliver on a Library vision that is consistent with the overall institutional strategy and shapes the future of Library services.

About You

You are a smart and informed professional with great management skills; you thrive at arranging projects, managing responsibilities, and clearly presenting complex information to varied audiences. Analytical and data-driven, you create sound decisions that provide genuine value. You are a natural collaborator who can effortlessly develop relationships and use your influence and bargaining abilities to achieve outcomes. You provide a customer-centric approach to information services, as well as knowledge of copyright, licensing, and developments in library material management.

About Our Division

The University Library, established in 1961, is a major research centre with extraordinary services and internationally notable resources. Today, the Library is much more than just a facility and a collection of printed resources. Now part of the Division of Library, Culture, and Heritage, it is critical to the creation, publication, application, and preservation of information and research at our vibrant university.

As an important partner in the University’s learning and research agendas, the Library is continuously looking for ways to stay as close to the changing nature of Schools’ work as possible in order to fully contribute to the enrichment of their students’ lives and the progress of their research. It also has a significant impact on civic involvement, particularly through the Keep, an archival service run in collaboration with East Sussex County Council and Brighton & Hove City Council.

Why Work Here?

Our institution is located off the A27, near to the stunning South Downs, and you will appreciate everything our 150-acre campus has to offer. We are accessible by public transit; the Falmer train station is a five-minute walk away, and there are multiple bus stations on campus. We also have dedicated bicycle pathways and encourage our employees to use them through our cycle-to-work initiative.
