Job Description

Job Title: Band 5 & Band 6 Midwives – Midwifery Led Units
Location: University Hospitals Birmingham – Heartlands, Good Hope & Solihull Hospitals
Full-Time Vacancies

About the Role
University Hospitals Birmingham (UHB) is excited to offer a fantastic opportunity for passionate and dedicated midwives to join our dynamic teams on the Midwifery Led Units (MLU) at Heartlands and Good Hope Hospitals. We are looking for Band 5 and Band 6 Midwives who are committed to supporting physiological birth and providing exceptional, low-risk care to women and their babies.

As a Registered Midwife, you will have the chance to support and facilitate women’s birth choices, delivering woman-centred care across a range of clinical settings. There will be opportunities to work cross-site between the MLUs, Delivery Suite, and Community settings, contributing to both the continuity of care and the implementation of the national maternity strategies such as Better Births and the Three-Year Delivery Plan for Maternity and Neonatal Services.

If you are a driven, self-motivated, and compassionate midwife, we invite you to apply and be part of our exciting journey to deliver safe, personalized, and equitable care for women, babies, and families.

Key Responsibilities

Autonomous Care: Deliver low-risk antenatal, intrapartum, and postnatal care, taking professional responsibility for managing caseloads and ensuring high standards of care.

Holistic Approach: Provide personalized care that meets the individual needs of women, acting as the known or lead midwife, and supporting the team as required.

Collaboration: Work closely with the multidisciplinary team to ensure seamless care delivery, including liaising with other healthcare professionals both within and outside the Trust.

Promotion of Normal Birth: Advocate for and lead the promotion of normal physiological birth processes, supporting women to make informed decisions about their care.

Clinical Competence: Maintain and update clinical skills such as fetal heart auscultation, cardiotocography, resuscitation, suturing, and venepuncture, ensuring adherence to evidence-based practices.

Cultural Sensitivity: Deliver culturally competent care that is kind, empathetic, and sensitive to the needs of women from diverse backgrounds.

Team Leadership: Act as a professional role model, promoting teamwork and collaborative care within the maternity department, ensuring care aligns with the Trust’s values of care, compassion, and respect.
