Join Our Team at the Glaxo Renal Unit – Band 5 Staff Nurse Opportunity

The Glaxo Renal Unit is a specialist haemodialysis unit providing 33 dialysis stations for patients with chronic renal conditions. In addition, we offer dialysis services to acute renal patients on Ward 3 at Heartlands Hospital and to inpatients as required.

We are looking to recruit a passionate and motivated Band 5 Staff Nurse to join our dedicated renal team. We offer a range of opportunities for individuals new to renal or dialysis care, as well as for experienced haemodialysis nurses. We are also happy to consider applications from newly qualified nurses.

This role provides a fantastic opportunity for development within renal nursing. You must be committed to delivering high standards of patient care, possess strong communication skills, and be eager to advance your career. In return, you will have access to numerous career progression opportunities, from leadership roles in dialysis units to clinical nurse specialist positions.

The unit operates three shifts from 07:00 to 24:00, Monday to Saturday, with a new Sunday shift (10:00-18:00) starting in February 2025. Participation in the emergency on-call haemodialysis service will be part of the role once you have gained suitable experience.

Support and Development:
You will receive an individual development plan, alongside opportunities for rotation to other dialysis units and Ward 3 if requested.

Main Duties and Responsibilities:

Assess patient care needs, develop, implement, and evaluate care plans for patients receiving haemodialysis.

Ensure the consistent delivery of high-quality care, maintaining agreed nursing and clinical standards.

Act as the named nurse for a group of patients.

Participate in the emergency out-of-hours haemodialysis on-call service after gaining the necessary experience.

Adhere to the NMC Code of Professional Conduct and all Trust policies and procedures.

Provide advice, support, and information to patients and their families.

Assist in the training and mentorship of junior staff, including healthcare assistants and student nurses.

Take part in local teaching and induction programs for staff and learners.

Supervise and mentor student nurses to help them develop their clinical skills and competence.

Participate in staff appraisals alongside the Senior Sister.
