About the Role:
University Hospitals Birmingham NHS Foundation Trust is seeking a Specialist Pharmacy Technician – Medicines Optimisation Services to join our team at Solihull Hospital. As Solihull expands its services and aligns with the NHS People Plan, this role offers a fantastic opportunity to become part of a dynamic team at one of the busiest hospital trusts in the UK.

In this part-time position, you will play a key role in the development and delivery of medicines optimisation services across the hospital. Working closely with the Pharmacy Operations and Performance Manager, you will lead a team of Clinical Pharmacy Technicians, providing high-quality, patient-centred pharmaceutical care.

Key Responsibilities:

Support the optimisation of medicines management, ensuring services meet quality, activity, and financial targets.

Provide guidance and counselling to patients about their medications, helping improve understanding and adherence.

Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to enhance patient care and safety.

Manage the technical pharmacy service for designated areas and supervise pharmacy technicians and support staff on a day-to-day basis.

We are looking for an organised and self-motivated individual with excellent leadership and communication skills. The ideal candidate will be registered with the GPhC, accredited as a Checking Technician, and have significant post-qualification experience in a hospital setting.

Key Qualifications:

Professional Registration with the GPhC.

Dispensing Accuracy Accreditation (West Midlands scheme or equivalent).

Accredited Checking Technician status (National Framework) or equivalent.

Evidence of Continued Professional Development.

Expert knowledge in the specialist area and technical procedures for pharmacy services.

Desirable Qualifications:

Leadership and management qualifications or equivalent experience.

Experience:

Significant post-qualification experience as a registered Pharmacy Technician in a hospital setting.

Experience in delivering training and supervising others.

Familiarity with clinical governance, audits, and quality assurance processes.

Knowledge of Good Distribution Practice (GDP), MHRA requirements, and COSHH regulations.

Experience working under pressure and prioritising tasks effectively.
