Job Description
Grade UE07: £40,497 to £48,149 per annum
MRC Human Genetics Unit
Full-time: 35 hours per week
Fixed-term: 18 months
The Opportunity:
We are offering a Postdoctoral research position within Professor Javier F. Caceres’s laboratory at the MRC Human Genetics Unit in Edinburgh, funded by the Medical Research Council. This role focuses on exploring the physiological significance and regulation of the nonsense-mediated mRNA decay (NMD) pathway in vivo.
This is a full-time position (35 hours per week) with a salary range of £40,497 to £48,149 per annum.
Your Skills and Attributes for Success:
- A PhD or equivalent in a relevant scientific field.
- Experience in biochemistry and RNA quality control.
- Experience in mouse genetics.
About the Research:
We aim to understand the regulatory mechanisms involved in RNA processing and quality control in vivo, with a particular focus on the NMD pathway. Our recent development of mouse models with an NMD biosensor will enable us to conduct in vivo CRISPR screens to identify novel NMD factors, revealing the complex regulation and physiological relevance of NMD.
As part of a multidisciplinary team, you will work on molecular, biochemical, and cellular aspects of RNA processing in eukaryotes. The MRC Human Genetics Unit, a part of the Institute of Genetics and Cancer (IGC), provides opportunities to enhance your research project skills and collaborate with colleagues within and beyond the institute.
