Pharmacy Technician – Clinical Role Opportunity
We are offering an exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic and committed individual to develop specialized skills in a clinical pharmacy role. We are seeking a motivated pharmacy technician to join our dynamic and diverse team at Good Hope Hospital within University Hospitals Birmingham (UHB) NHS Foundation Trust.
As a key member of the wider pharmacy team, you will work alongside healthcare professionals, including pharmacists, to manage and supply medications to patients. You will deliver a high standard of clinical care, ensuring a safe and effective medicines optimisation service. This role involves working closely with the clinical pharmacy team to bridge the gap between pharmacy and clinical areas, while building strong relationships with the multidisciplinary team and acting as a key communication link.
This position offers full support to develop the skills and experience needed to practice at an advanced level in the hospital setting. You will undergo a comprehensive training schedule, supported by experienced Clinical Pharmacy Technicians.

Main Duties & Responsibilities:
With a patient-focused approach, you will:
Support the pharmacy department in providing comprehensive pharmaceutical care to patients.
Deliver a high-quality, ward-based medicines optimisation service across multiple areas of the Trust.
Act as a role model, providing training and mentoring to junior staff members.
Support the pharmacy satellite unit in cancer services.
Carry out accuracy checking duties.
Key Person Specification Requirements:
Essential:
Nationally recognized pharmacy technician qualification and registration with the General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC).
Post-qualification experience as a registered pharmacy technician in an acute setting.
Nationally accredited accuracy checking qualification (West Midlands scheme or equivalent).
A professional attitude with the ability to motivate both yourself and others.
Ability to remain calm under pressure and a flexible approach to meet service needs.
Strong attention to detail.
Experience in a clinical pharmacy technician role or similar capacity is desirable.
Additional Criteria:
The role requires participation in one evening per week, 1 in 7-12 weekends, and one bank holiday per year on a rotational basis.

Qualifications:
Essential:
Professional Registration with the GPhC.
Dispensing Accuracy Accreditation (West Midlands scheme or equivalent).
Evidence of Continued Professional Development (CPD).
Accredited Checking Technician (National Framework) or equivalent.
One of the following:
Level 3 Diploma in Principles and Practice for Pharmacy Technicians
BTEC Level 3 Diploma in Pharmaceutical Science and Level 3 NVQ Diploma in Pharmacy Service Skills
Equivalent qualifications as defined by the General Pharmaceutical Council.
Desirable:
Accredited Checking Technician (National Framework).
Experience:
Essential:
Two years of work experience in pharmacy pre-qualification.
Currently practicing as a Band 4 pharmacy technician (or equivalent) with post-qualification experience in an acute setting.
Significant experience within a pharmacy setting, particularly in a hospital environment.
Experience of specialist functions within pharmacy.
Knowledge of dispensing, stock control, supply, and IT systems.
Understanding of Good Distribution Practice (GDP), Health and Safety at Work, COSHH, and the Code of Practice/Customer Care.
Knowledge of medicines, side effects, and where to find additional information.
Desirable:
Experience working as a Clinical Pharmacy Technician or in a similar capacity.
Experience in setting up new working practices or procedures.
Participation in staff training and mentoring.
Additional Skills:
Strong problem-solving ability and clear thinking.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
Time management and the ability to meet objectives.
Demonstrated initiative and self-motivation.
Ability to assess staff performance and provide constructive feedback.
