JOB SUMMARY
Job Purpose
You will participate to the following project: Behavioural activation for depression in people with severe learning difficulties. A feasibility randomised controlled trial comparing behavioural activation with treatment as usual (TAU) with TAU alone. You will collaborate with Andrew Jahoda. The chosen candidate will also be required to contribute to the development and submission of research articles, as well as assist in managing and directing this complex and hard project when chances arise. The ideal candidate for this position would have extensive knowledge of social science, psychological therapies, and applied research.
Main duties and responsibilities
Perform the following tasks in collaboration with and under the supervision of the Principal/Co Investigator:
1. Plan and carry out allocated research independently or collaboratively in accordance with project deliverables and the project/group/School/College research strategy.
2. Document research output, including data analysis and interpretation, record-keeping and database management, and draughting technical/progress reports and papers as needed.
3. Develop and improve your research profile and reputation, as well as that of The University of Glasgow/School/Research Group, by contributing to high-profile/quality refereed publications of international quality, increasing research impact in terms of economic/societal benefit, and gathering esteem indicators.
4. Engage stakeholders with learning difficulties.
5. Participate in public consultations. Contribute to the presentation of work at international and national conferences, internal and external seminars, colloquia, and workshops to help you grow and improve your research profile.
6. Disseminate findings through a variety of channels, including easy-to-read summaries, website reports, and social media.
7. Help identify prospective funding sources and build bids to seek financing from internal and external agencies for future research.
8. Collaborate with colleagues and attend team/group/meetings/seminars/workshops throughout the research group/school/college/university and the larger community.
9. Help organise, supervise, mentor, and train undergraduate and/or postgraduate students, as well as less experienced members of the project team, to ensure their successful development.
10. Perform administrative work relating to the research group’s and School’s activities, such as budgeting and expenditure.
11. Perform minor teaching activities (e.g., demonstrating) and associated administrative tasks as assigned by the Head of School and in consultation with the Principal Investigator.
12. Stay current on the latest developments in the field/discipline.
13. Participate in continuing professional development programs as needed.
14. Perform any other reasonable duties as assigned by the Head of School/Director of the Research Institute.
15. Contribute to the University’s international image in accordance with the University Strategy, World Changing Glasgow 2025.
Knowledge, qualifications, skills, and experience.
Knowledge/Qualifications
Essential
A1. SCQF Level 10 (Honours degree) in a relevant topic or kindred discipline, or an equivalent qualification, such as psychology, sociology, or public health.
A2. Specialist theoretical and practical knowledge about persons with learning difficulties and their families.
A3. A thorough and current understanding of research in a related discipline.
Desirable
B1. An awarded (or recently submitted or near completion) PhD in topic specialisation or equivalent.

Experience
Essential:
E1. Worked in a research or service context with people with learning disabilities and/or family carers.
E2. Sufficient relevant research experience (or equivalent) suitable for an early career researcher.
E3. Experience in scientific writing.
E4. Demonstrated capacity to produce quality results in a timely and efficient manner.
Terms & Conditions.
The salary will be Grade 6, £32,332 – £36,024 per year pro rata.
This position is part-time (28 hours per week) and fixed-term for up to 24 months.
