Specialist Nurse – Children’s Diabetes Services
Location: University Hospital Wishaw
Contract: Full-Time, Fixed Term (18 Months) | 37 Hours per Week
Working Pattern: Monday – Friday, 9am – 5pm

NHS Lanarkshire is currently seeking a Specialist Nurse to join our Integrated Community Children’s Nursing Service at University Hospital Wishaw, with a focus on Paediatric Diabetes Services.
This is a fantastic opportunity to play a leading role in delivering high-quality, specialist nursing care and education for children with diabetes across both hospital and community settings. This post requires autonomous practice, clinical leadership, and expert management of a specialist caseload.

What You’ll Bring
To succeed in this role, you will need to demonstrate:
NMC Registration as a Registered Sick Children’s Nurse
Educated to or working towards degree level
Proven postgraduate experience within a paediatric specialty, ideally with a focus on diabetes
In-depth knowledge of clinical guidelines, safeguarding practices, and specialist policies
The ability to lead and manage day-to-day service delivery
Excellent communication, teamwork, and time management skills
Competence in clinical technologies and IT systems
Evidence of ongoing CPD, including study days, relevant courses, or postgraduate qualifications
Desirable:
Full UK/EU/EEA driving licence
Ability to transport clinical/non-clinical equipment as needed
About the Role
As a Specialist Nurse in Children’s Services – Diabetes, you will:
Deliver expert clinical care and support to children with diabetes and their families
Provide leadership and guidance to colleagues across the multidisciplinary team
Work across hospital and community settings to coordinate care
Educate patients, carers, and staff on condition management
Contribute to ongoing service development and clinical improvement
This role will be based at University Hospital Wishaw, with travel across community sites as required.
Please Note:
This is a fixed-term role for 18 months. Existing NHS Lanarkshire employees must secure written agreement from their line manager for secondment before applying.
