Role Overview
This is a senior operational leadership role responsible for overseeing how goods move across UK borders. You will ensure that all import and export activities are compliant, efficient, and aligned with business objectives.
As the UK Customs Operations Leader, you will guide strategy, lead a team, and work closely with internal departments and external partners to maintain smooth and compliant cross-border operations. The role requires strong judgement to balance regulatory requirements, cost efficiency, and service performance.
What You’ll Be Doing
In this role, you will take ownership of customs operations across the UK, ensuring consistency and high performance. Your responsibilities will include:
- Developing and implementing customs strategies for UK operations
Leading, coaching, and supporting a high-performing team
Ensuring import and export processes meet regulatory requirements
Managing relationships with customs brokers and external vendors
Handling operational challenges such as shipment delays or compliance issues
Leading audits and ensuring readiness for regulatory inspections
Driving continuous improvement initiatives and process optimisation
Monitoring key performance indicators (KPIs) to improve efficiency and reduce risk
Leading change management projects in response to regulatory updates
Supporting integration of customs processes across multiple sites

Essential Requirements
Experience & Expertise
- Strong background in logistics and customs operations
Experience managing import/export processes in a complex environment
Proven leadership experience, including team development and performance management
Knowledge of UK customs regulations and compliance requirements
Experience working with customs brokers and regulatory bodies

- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills
Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities

Desirable Attributes
