The UCL Interaction Centre (UCLIC) is a world-renowned Centre of Excellence in Human-Computer Interaction (HCI), jointly operated by UCL Computer Science and UCL Psychology. It explores how people interact with technology and collaborates with academic, research, and industry partners globally.
The Department of Computer Science is one of the world’s leading research institutions, with over 120 academic staff and a strong interdisciplinary network across UCL. UCLIC sits at the intersection of these two departments, providing a dynamic and collaborative research environment.
About the Role
This position is available only to current UCL employees as a 6-month secondment opportunity, beginning January 2026.
As Centre Manager, you will be the main administrative lead and first point of contact for UCLIC. You will oversee day-to-day operations, manage support staff, and work closely with the UCLIC Director to ensure the Centre functions effectively and efficiently.
Your key responsibilities will include:
Overseeing the administration and management of the Centre.
Liaising with the Departments of Psychology and Computer Science on financial, HR, and operational matters.
Managing departmental resources and ensuring compliance with UCL and Faculty policies.
Supporting strategic planning, communications, and external relations.
Providing leadership to administrative staff and contributing to an inclusive, collaborative working environment.
This role offers the opportunity to contribute directly to the continued success of one of UCL’s leading interdisciplinary centres.
About You
You will have significant experience in administration and management within a Higher Education Institution, ideally in a complex or multi-departmental environment.
Essential skills and qualifications include:
Educated to degree level or equivalent, or with substantial relevant experience.
Proven ability to manage people and lead teams effectively.
Experience in financial management, including budgeting and reporting.
Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build effective relationships across departments.
Excellent organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work independently.
A strategic mindset and the ability to contribute to process improvements and policy implementation.
