About the Role
The Brighton and Sussex Medical School (BSMS) is seeking a Technical Supervisor to support our expanding medical research activities.
You will take primary responsibility for:
Managing and maintaining tissue culture suites and microbiology laboratories.
Overseeing the Tissue Bank and associated sample database.
Assisting the Technical Services Manager with health and safety and other regulatory compliance.
Supporting a wide range of research activities across a diverse and growing portfolio.
This is a key role in ensuring the smooth operation of our facilities, compliance with relevant regulations, and support for high-quality biomedical and clinical research.
About You
We are looking for a motivated and organized individual with:
A proactive approach, strong initiative, and the ability to work both independently and collaboratively.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Education to Master’s level (or equivalent experience).
Extensive experience in mammalian cell culture techniques and molecular biology.
Some experience with processing and analyzing human tissue samples.
A solid understanding of laboratory health & safety in environments with biological and chemical hazards.
Experience in database maintenance and set-up, ideally with specialist software packages.
Awareness of the Human Tissue Act and its application to sample acquisition and storage.
Experience in laboratory management would be an advantage. This role is particularly suited to an experienced scientist seeking a career path in technical research management.
