About the role
Sherwood Forest Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust is looking for an experienced and driven Orthopaedic Theatre Practitioner to step into a Team Leader role within our high-performing orthopaedic theatres.
This position is ideal for a practitioner with strong scrub experience in orthopaedics who is ready to take on greater responsibility, influence service delivery, and inspire others. You will provide hands-on clinical leadership while ensuring the highest standards of patient safety, efficiency, and compassionate care are maintained throughout the perioperative pathway.
What you’ll be doing
Clinical and team leadership
- Lead the day-to-day coordination of orthopaedic theatre lists, ensuring safe and effective service delivery
- Allocate staff roles based on skills, competence, and experience
- Act as a role model for professional practice, patient-centred care, and NHS values
- Support the development of students, newly qualified staff, and junior colleagues through mentorship and supervision
- Contribute to staff induction, competency sign-off, and performance development reviews
- Lead and participate in team briefings, debriefs, and reflective learning following incidents or near misses
Operational and service management
- Work closely with surgeons, anaesthetists, recovery staff, and theatre management to maintain smooth theatre flow
- Ensure availability of orthopaedic implants, instruments, and specialist equipment, liaising with suppliers and stores as required
- Monitor compliance with service level agreements, escalating concerns appropriately
- Identify opportunities to improve efficiency, productivity, and patient experience
- Support initiatives to reduce turnaround times, delays, and last-minute cancellations
