About UCL Mathematics Department
UCL’s Department of Mathematics is internationally recognized, with a rich history of academic excellence and groundbreaking research. It has been home to renowned scholars, including three Fields Medal winners. The department continues to grow, now hosting around 80 academic staff, 30 postdoctoral researchers, over 100 PhD students, and numerous visiting academics.
Research spans pure and applied mathematics, including number theory, geometry, fluid mechanics, mathematical biology, and more. UCL Mathematics plays a key role in interdisciplinary centers like the London Centre for Nanotechnology and the Thomas Young Centre.
The Role
As a Teaching & Learning Administrator, you will provide high-quality administrative support for UCL’s postgraduate taught (PGT) programmes in mathematics, including:
MSc Financial Mathematics
MSc Mathematical Modelling
A new MSc in Mathematics launching in 2026
You’ll work as part of a wider team of six teaching and learning administrators and report to the Departmental Manager. You’ll collaborate closely with academic staff, including programme directors and admissions tutors.
Your responsibilities will include:
End-to-end student support: from enquiry through to graduation
Maintaining student and course records
Supporting assessment processes and producing examination reports
Monitoring student engagement
Supporting teaching committees and related meetings
Publishing course materials online (e.g., via Moodle)
You’ll ensure effective administrative processes are in place and deliver a professional, timely, and student-focused service.
About You
Essential qualifications and experience:
Five GCSEs (Grade C or above), including Maths and English, or equivalent experience
Previous administrative experience in a busy environment
Understanding of higher or further education systems
Experience supporting academic programmes or courses
Proficiency in Microsoft Office (especially Word, Excel, Outlook)
Strong organisational and time-management skills
Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing
Comfortable working under pressure and managing deadlines
Willingness and ability to learn new systems (e.g., UCL’s Portico)
Desirable:
A-Level qualifications or equivalent
Experience working in a Higher Education setting
Knowledge of web publishing or online learning platforms like Moodle
You should be proactive, detail-oriented, flexible, and committed to continuous improvement and providing excellent service to students and colleagues.
