Job Description
About Us
Dowty, a GE Aerospace company, is a world-leading manufacturer of integrated propeller systems. Our products are used across a wide range of applications, from regional and military aircraft to marine hovercrafts.
As part of our continued growth, we are seeking a Stress Analysis Engineer to join our team at our advanced manufacturing site in Brock worth. This role offers the opportunity to work on the design, analysis, and optimization of propeller components and subsystems, ensuring they meet the highest standards of performance, reliability, and safety.
The scope is broad – covering everything from new product development and future programmes to analysis tool development, sustaining programmes, and repair/concession support.
Key Responsibilities
Perform stress analysis using hand calculations and Finite Element Analysis (FEA) with commercial and proprietary tools.
Support the design of propeller systems, including metallic and composite structures, as well as test rigs and tooling.
Contribute to the development of analysis tools, stress methods, and technical instructions.
Prepare and maintain clear technical documentation for analysed components.
Provide engineering support for repair and concession assessments, working towards stress approval authority.
Communicate effectively across teams, customers, and senior stakeholders on project progress, risks, and developments.
Apply sound engineering judgment to solve problems within defined parameters.
Lead and deliver assigned project tasks to agreed timelines.
Essential Requirements
Degree in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering (or equivalent).
Experience in the aerospace industry, with proven ability in both hand calculations and FEA.
Proficiency with commercial analysis software such as ANSYS (Classic/Workbench), Creo, Hypermesh, or similar.
Knowledge of manufacturing processes and repair methods for both metallic and composite components.
Strong communication skills, with proven ability in report writing, presentations, and stakeholder engagement.
Logical problem-solving skills, able to work under project constraints.
Highly motivated, target-oriented, open-minded, and eager to learn.
Desired Characteristics
Concession Stress Signatory within an Aerospace Design Organization (metallic and/or composite).
Experience in structural dynamics and modal analysis.
Programming and tools development (e.g. Matlab, Python, Fortran).
