Job Description
Join our dynamic Site Management Team as a Band 7 Site
Nurse Practitioner at University Hospitals Sussex (UHSussex), based at one of our hospital sites (such as Worthing or Royal Sussex County Hospital).
We are a tight-knit, highly motivated group that combines strong clinical expertise with daily management and coordination responsibilities. This varied position lets you collaborate closely with teams across multiple specialties and departments throughout the hospital.
You will handle a mix of urgent clinical situations anywhere on site acting independently when required while also contributing effectively to emergency response teams. A key part of the role includes overseeing bed management and capacity throughout each shift to keep patient flow smooth.
We provide a thorough induction program and ongoing support to help you grow and succeed in the position.
This is a senior role with real impact: you’ll manage site-wide operational and clinical matters around the clock, including participation in night shifts as part of the Hospital at Night team.
What we are looking for
- To thrive here, you’ll be a current Band 6 nurse with a minimum of 2 years’ experience at that level. This opportunity is ideal for someone eager to expand their skills and take on greater responsibility.
- The role demands quick thinking, excellent communication, strong problem-solving abilities, and effective negotiation—especially when dealing with complex challenges under pressure.
- If you are ready for a rewarding challenge that truly makes a difference to patient care and hospital operations, we’d love to hear from you.
Key responsibilities include
- Leading the timely and appropriate placement of patients by efficiently managing inpatient bed capacity for both emergency and planned admissions.
- Delivering advanced clinical support, including thorough assessments, interventions, and decision-making across all hospital areas as needed.
- Ensuring patients in A&E and assessment units receive prompt reviews, referrals, and transfers to meet national standards and deliver optimal care.
- Proactively resolving issues along the patient journey to enhance experiences and support clinical teams.
- Serving as the main point of contact out of hours, coordinating with on-call services and implementing overnight plans agreed with the Clinical Site Manager.
The Site Management Team plays a vital role in guiding patients smoothly through their hospital experience both clinically and operationally. Our core focus is on three main areas:
- Facilitating prompt and suitable clinical placement of patients.
- Providing advanced nursing practice and sound clinical judgment.
- Delivering 24/7 operational leadership and site management across the hospital.
By working across boundaries, spotting issues early, and finding practical solutions, the team helps ensure seamless patient pathways and high-quality care.
At UHSussex, we celebrate diversity and inclusion as key to our success. We’re committed to “Excellent Care Everywhere,” reflected in our Outstanding rating for Caring from the CQC. Your unique background and perspective will be valued in our supportive, innovative environment. We offer staff networks to connect people, a buddy system for new joiners, and we’re proud to be a Disability Confident Employer (Level 3) and Veteran Aware Trust.
