About Our Pharmacy Service at Forth Valley Royal Hospital

Located in Larbert, Forth Valley Royal Hospital features a modern, purpose-designed pharmacy department that leverages cutting-edge technology, including automated robotic systems for dispensing. We’ve been pioneers in digital medicines management, fully introducing the Hospital Electronic Prescribing and Medicines Administration (HePMA) system across our acute site in 2016. This has since expanded to other key locations within NHS Forth Valley, with a recent upgrade completed this summer and further extensions planned for areas like the Emergency Department. HePMA plays a vital role in Scotland’s broader push for safer, more efficient pharmaceutical care, as highlighted in the Scottish Government’s strategy for excellence in pharmaceutical care:
Achieving Excellence in Pharmaceutical Care: A Strategy for Scotland.

Join Our Dynamic Team

We’re seeking an enthusiastic, innovative pharmacist ready to embrace change and contribute to evolving our services. This varied role offers a balanced split between two exciting areas, allowing you to make a real impact on patient safety and care quality.

1. HePMA Development (50% of the role)
You’ll join our specialist HePMA team, focusing on enhancing and expanding the system across NHS Forth Valley. Key responsibilities include:

  • Collaborating with the System Manager, clinical staff, and pharmacy colleagues to maximise patient safety and clinical advantages.
  • Exploring creative uses of system reports, protocols, and tools like the Pharmacist Early Warning (PhEW) feature to better prioritise patient reviews and support effective medicines management.

2. Emergency Department Clinical Pharmacy (50% of the role)
As part of a pilot initiative, you’ll deliver dedicated clinical pharmacy support in our busy Emergency Department. Working closely with the multidisciplinary team, you’ll help showcase the value of integrated pharmacy input, gather evidence through evaluation, and inform potential long-term expansions of this service model.

We’re looking for a proactive pharmacist passionate about driving improvements and delivering truly patient-focused care.

Essential Requirements:

  • Willingness and ability to travel across NHS Forth Valley service areas.

This position involves regulated work with vulnerable groups, so the successful candidate must join the Protecting Vulnerable Groups (PVG) Scheme. Further details are available on the Disclosure Scotland website:
