About the Role

We are seeking an experienced and proactive Event Manager (Civic Engagement) to join our established Events team on a fixed-term basis. This role plays a key part in delivering a varied portfolio of high-profile events that strengthen civic, alumni, and global engagement for the University.

Working collaboratively with fellow events professionals, you will be responsible for planning, coordinating, and evaluating a wide range of events, including major institutional projects, alumni reunions, international receptions, and graduation ceremonies both in the UK and overseas.

A central focus of the role is to lead the development and delivery of the University’s civic and global events programme, ensuring that each event is strategically aligned, professionally executed, and responsive to diverse audiences.

You will also take on line management responsibility for an Events Coordinator (Grade 4), supporting their development and ensuring high standards across event delivery.

Key Responsibilities

  • Plan, manage, and deliver multiple events simultaneously, from concept through to post-event evaluation
  • Lead the design and execution of an agreed portfolio of civic and global engagement events
  • Contribute to the delivery of major institutional events and overseas alumni activity
  • Manage budgets, suppliers, and logistical arrangements effectively
  • Build strong working relationships with internal teams and external stakeholders
  • Line manage and support an Events Coordinator, ensuring effective workload management and professional development
  • Monitor progress, assess risks, and ensure all events meet agreed objectives

About You

You will be a confident and highly organised events professional with at least five years’ relevant experience. You will be comfortable managing competing priorities and maintaining composure in fast-paced environments.

  • The ability to communicate clearly with colleagues, senior managers, and external partners
  • Experience supporting or managing colleagues and contributing to team success

Sponsorship and Right to Work

All work for the University must be carried out within the UK. This role may be eligible for sponsorship under the Skilled Worker route, subject to Home Office requirements.

  • Going rate: £41,700

Eligibility for sponsorship depends on whether the applicant already holds Skilled Worker sponsorship that commenced before 22 July 2025.
