About the Opportunity
An exciting opportunity has arisen within the X-Ray Department at the Cumberland Infirmary for an experienced and motivated Band 6 Specialist Radiographer. This fixed-term role is ideal for a radiographer with strong interventional experience who is ready to step into a senior, supportive leadership position within a busy acute setting.

Your Role
In this role, you will act as a senior radiographer within the main X-Ray Department, taking a lead role during interventional procedures and supporting the Lead X-Ray and Interventional Radiographers. You will contribute to the smooth day-to-day running of the department while maintaining high clinical standards and supporting staff development.
There may be occasional travel to satellite sites in Penrith and Keswick, depending on service needs.
You will participate fully in the departmental rota, including out-of-hours, weekends, and on-call duties.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and support interventional radiography procedures, acting as the senior radiographer when required
- Deputise for Lead Radiographers and assist in delivering a safe, effective, and responsive imaging service
- Coordinate daily departmental activity, ensuring effective use of staff and resources
- Take ownership of additional delegated responsibilities within the department
- Support, supervise, and mentor radiographers, assistants, and students
- Actively contribute to staff induction, education, and clinical training
- Promote best practice, patient safety, and compassionate care at all times

What We’re Looking For
Essential Qualifications
- Degree in Diagnostic Radiography (or equivalent)
- Current HCPC registration
- Relevant postgraduate certificate or equivalent
Essential Experience
- General radiography experience within the NHS
- Acute hospital diagnostic imaging experience
- Experience in relevant specialist radiography fields
- Confident handling and positioning of patients with limited mobility
Essential Knowledge & Skills
- Strong clinical radiography knowledge
- Patient care, including recognition of deterioration and basic life support
- Radiation protection and infection prevention
- CRIS / PACS systems
- Excellent communication, decision-making, and organisational skills
- Ability to mentor, teach, and motivate others
- Commitment to compassionate, patient-centred care
Additional Requirements
- Flexible approach to working patterns
- Willingness to travel across NCIC sites
- Must live within 30 minutes of the base hospital when on call
