Role Overview
Cambridge University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust is looking for an experienced, organised, and people-focused Directorate Support Manager to lead administrative services across Neurosurgery, Paediatric Neurosurgery, and Rehabilitation.
This role plays a vital part in ensuring patients receive timely, coordinated care while supporting clinicians and administrative teams to meet national NHS standards. You will be the central operational link between patients, clinical teams, and senior leadership, with responsibility for performance management, data reporting, and continuous service improvement.

Key Responsibilities
- Provide leadership and day-to-day management of large administrative teams across multiple services
- Oversee patient pathways to ensure compliance with NHS Referral to Treatment (RTT) standards and access policies
- Act as the primary point of contact between clinicians, patients, and administrative staff
- Analyse complex datasets to identify performance trends, risks, and opportunities for improvement
- Prepare and present performance reports to Trust-level governance forums
- Support service development initiatives and contribute to quality improvement projects
- Maintain high standards of patient confidentiality, data quality, and GDPR compliance

Person Specification
Essential Qualifications
- Degree-level education or equivalent professional experience
Desirable Qualifications
- Formal management qualification
Essential Experience
- Significant management experience within a customer-focused or patient-facing service
- Line management responsibility for administrative or operational staff
- Experience analysing numerical, statistical, or performance data
- Producing written reports and presentations for senior stakeholders
Desirable Experience
- Evidence of leading or contributing to service improvement initiatives
- Experience using NHS systems such as Epic, CHEQS, PAS, or EPR
- Working with NHS performance and operational data
Essential Knowledge & Skills
- Strong analytical ability with confidence handling large, complex datasets
- Advanced skills in Microsoft Excel and Word
- Understanding of NHS access standards and RTT targets
- In-depth knowledge of patient pathways and tracking processes
- Excellent communication skills, able to explain complex information clearly
- Strong organisational skills and ability to manage competing priorities
- Understanding of patient confidentiality and data protection
Desirable Knowledge
- Familiarity with Microsoft Teams
- Understanding of NHS data quality requirements
- Awareness of the relationship between primary care (GPs) and acute trust
