The Digital Technology Services (DTS) team at the University of Reading plays a critical role in delivering and securing central IT services and solutions. At the core of this work is the SecOps Manager – a key player in the University’s cybersecurity strategy.
In this role, you will lead the identification, detection, and response to information security threats, while also managing incident response procedures. Working across DTS and the wider University, you’ll protect vital technology and data assets from evolving security challenges. You’ll also lead a team of expert engineers across Microsoft 365, Identity, and Security functions, and provide technical leadership for major capital projects impacting identity management.
About the Role
You will be responsible for:
- Leading and mentoring a team of engineers across M365, identity services, and cybersecurity
- Overseeing the secure operation of key University services
- Providing technical leadership on security architecture and identity strategy
- Supporting and influencing the delivery of capital projects related to identity and access management
- Ensuring alignment with the University’s broader cyber defence and digital strategy
Team Focus Areas
M365:
Management of Microsoft 365 and Entra (formerly Azure AD) services including email systems and collaboration tools.
Identity:
Design and delivery of secure, automated identity and access management solutions for staff, students, and partners.
Security:
Operation and enhancement of security tools and infrastructure, and provision of expert guidance across the organisation.
What We’re Looking For
Essential Requirements:
- Proven experience managing identity systems and Active Directory, including Entra
- Deep understanding of current and emerging security technologies
- Experience leading large-scale architectural improvements within an enterprise environment
- Solid working knowledge of on-premise servers, storage infrastructure, cloud services, and networking
