The Department

Initial Teacher Education (ITE) sits within the School of Education, Language & Psychology. We offer both undergraduate and postgraduate routes into teaching, including:

  • BA (Hons) Primary Education (3-year programme)
  • PGCE Primary (University and School-Centred routes)
  • PGCE Secondary (School-Centred routes in various subjects)

Our extensive network of regional school partnerships is central to our success, supporting around 550 student teachers annually. The strength of our collaborations ensures high employability for our graduates across the region.

The Role

We are seeking an enthusiastic and experienced Lecturer or Senior Lecturer in Primary ITE with a specialism in English, who can also contribute to teaching across other curriculum areas. You will:

  • Deliver engaging teaching across lectures, seminars, and tutorials
  • Support student teachers through academic and pastoral guidance
  • Contribute to curriculum development and assessment
  • Liaise with partner schools
  • Engage with departmental research groups

This is an exciting opportunity to join a dynamic and supportive academic team at the region’s largest ITE provider.

What We’re Looking For

Essential:

  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS)
  • Substantial teaching experience in primary education
  • Experience working with ITE programmes or supporting student teachers
  • Expertise in teaching English within the primary curriculum

Desirable:

  • Experience teaching additional curriculum subjects
  • Ability to contribute to Professional Studies modules
  • Doctorate and a developing research profile (or a willingness to pursue one)
