Brighton and Sussex Medical School (BSMS)
is seeking to appoint an ambitious and research-active Associate Professor of Clinical Pharmacology and Therapeutics to join its growing academic and clinical community. This position is offered alongside an Honorary Consultant Physician appointment with University Hospitals Sussex NHS Foundation Trust
The role presents an exciting opportunity for an experienced clinical academic to contribute to innovative medical education, impactful research, and high-quality patient care across Sussex.
About the Position
BSMS is looking for a motivated Clinical Pharmacologist who is passionate about teaching, curriculum innovation, and advancing research within Clinical Pharmacology and Therapeutics (CPT).
The successful candidate will combine academic responsibilities with clinical practice, contributing to undergraduate and postgraduate medical education while supporting the ongoing expansion and development of BSMS programmes.
Clinical duties will primarily take place at:
Princess Royal Hospital
Royal Sussex County Hospital
There may also be opportunities for cross-site working within the wider NHS Trust network.
Key Responsibilities
The appointed Associate Professor will:
- Deliver high-quality teaching across undergraduate and postgraduate medical programmes
Support curriculum design, assessment development, and educational innovation
Contribute to higher specialist training within Clinical Pharmacology and Therapeutics
Participate in simulation-based and digital learning initiatives
Engage in inter-professional education and collaborative teaching approaches
Lead or contribute to research activity aligned with BSMS strategic priorities
Support the continued enhancement of student learning experiences and academic standards
This role offers the flexibility to align academic and research interests with the candidate’s expertise and long-term career goals.
Candidate Profile
Applicants should be:
- Dually accredited in Clinical Pharmacology & Therapeutics and General Internal Medicine
Experienced in medical education across multiple training levels
Actively involved in research with a developing or established academic profile
Skilled in communication, collaboration, and educational leadership
Interested in advancing innovative approaches to healthcare education and training
Experience in curriculum development, simulation teaching, digital learning platforms, or assessment methodologies would be particularly beneficial.
