Hampshire and Isle of Wight Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust is seeking a Specialty Doctor in General Adult Psychiatry to join our acute inpatient team at Elmleigh Hospital. You will work on either Ruby Ward (female, 16 beds) or Sapphire Ward (male, 17 beds), delivering compassionate, evidence-based care for adults experiencing acute mental health episodes.

Role Overview
The Specialty Doctor will provide high-quality assessment, treatment, and ongoing management of adults with functional mental illnesses, including:
- Depression and bipolar disorder
- Schizophrenia and schizoaffective disorder
- Personality disorders
Working alongside consultants, middle grade doctors, resident doctors, and a skilled multidisciplinary team, you will:
- Lead clinical reviews and contribute to Multidisciplinary Team (MDT) meetings
- Conduct Care Programme Approach (CPA) reviews and prepare tribunal reports
- Participate in clinical governance, audit, and service development
- Support teaching, supervision, and research initiatives
- Maintain professional standards and contribute to quality improvement initiatives
- The post includes 8 Programmed Activities (PAs) of direct clinical care and 2 PAs for supporting professional activities such as CPD, audit, peer groups, and service development.
Key Responsibilities
- Complete timely administrative duties linked to patient care
- Accurately record clinical activity in patient notes
- Engage in annual appraisal and maintain professional registration
- Participate in the Trust’s internal CPD and academic programs
- Ensure compliance with the Mental Health Act Section 12(2), professional codes of conduct, and Trust policies
- Contribute to the development and implementation of evidence-based guidelines and protocols
- Support junior medical staff and maintain adherence to the Working Time Directive
Person Specification
Essential Qualifications & Registration:
- Full GMC registration with licence to practice: GMC Registration
- Primary medical qualification recognised by the GMC
- Minimum 2 years post-registration experience in General Adult Psychiatry
Desirable:
- Experience in acute inpatient settings with multidisciplinary teams
- Participation in teaching, audit, and quality improvement projects
- Right to Work, DBS, and Visa Sponsorship
