Job Description
We are looking for a dedicated Sexual Health Adviser to join our well-established team specialising in sexual health, HIV, and contraception services. Who We’re Looking For
We welcome applications from candidates with a nursing background (ideally holding current UK NMC registration), or from other relevant professional fields, as long as you meet the requirements outlined in the person specification. This could include appropriate qualifications and hands-on experience in sexual health or related areas. If you’re an internationally qualified nurse seeking sponsorship, please note that we are not currently recruiting directly for overseas nurses at this time.
What the Role Involves
You’ll provide personalised, one-to-one support to patients, helping them navigate a wide range of sexual health concerns. Key aspects of the role include:
Conducting sensitive discussions around positive test results, treatment options, and broader influences on sexual wellbeing.
- Performing thorough risk assessments, offering tailored advice, signposting to services, and making onward referrals when needed.
- Guiding individuals on notifying sexual partners about infections a vital part of our public health approach to reducing transmission.
- Delivering risk reduction strategies, such as advising on and supporting access to PEP, PrEP, Bexsero, Doxy-PEP, and vaccinations for Hepatitis A and B.
- Carrying out asymptomatic screening and phlebotomy procedures.
- Collaborating closely with the multidisciplinary team (MDT) to support patients with more complex needs, including young people under 18 and anyone raising potential safeguarding issues.
- Building effective partnerships with external organisations (such as THT, CGL, RUOK, Survivors Network, and others) to ensure seamless referrals and holistic care.
- Assisting the recall team with managing complex results, maintaining daily recall systems, and ensuring timely follow-up.
The work is predominantly face-to-face in clinic settings, involving results discussions, treatment support, and ongoing patient care. It’s a role that demands empathy, strong communication skills, adaptability, and a genuine commitment to improving sexual health outcomes for diverse individuals.
