About the Role
The University of Sussex is seeking a Senior Strategic Finance Business Partner to lead financial services supporting strategic business development initiatives.
This newly created role will provide high-level financial advice to the University’s Executive, ensuring the delivery of Strategy 2035 and sustainable financial performance. You will:
Advise on financial strategy and long-term planning.
Lead the identification and evaluation of strategic business opportunities.
Collaborate with directors and business leaders to develop proposals and business plans for Executive review and approval.
Support both new initiatives and the optimisation of existing projects to enhance financial sustainability and performance.
Build strong relationships across Professional Services and Academic Faculties to support the growth of income-generating activities.
You will be a key partner to senior managers, helping them make informed financial decisions, while also contributing to improving financial literacy and management practices across the University.
About You
We are looking for someone who is:
Strategic and analytical, with proven experience in financial planning and modelling.
Skilled at presenting financial information clearly to non-financial stakeholders.
Experienced in developing business cases, reporting tools, and supporting data-driven decisions.
An effective communicator and collaborator, able to work with senior leaders and operational teams alike.
Confident in building relationships, supporting business development, and influencing decision-making at the highest levels.

About the Finance Division
The Finance Division, led by the Chief Financial Officer, employs around 80 staff and provides financial and commercial services that support the University’s schools, services, and strategic priorities.
