Job Description
Senior Sister / Charge Nurse – Plastics, Trauma & Surgical Outpatients
Band 7 (Permanent, Full-time)
We are looking for an experienced, compassionate and forward-thinking senior nurse to lead our friendly and fast-paced Plastics, Trauma and Surgical Outpatients teams across Hull Royal Infirmary and Castle Hill Hospital.
This is a genuine leadership role where you will shape day-to-day clinical care, support and develop your teams, and directly influence the patient experience in two very different but equally rewarding departments.
What the role looks like in practice
You will be the clinical and operational lead for:
The Plastics Trauma Unit at Hull Royal Infirmary – a lively 7-day service that operates as a true “see-and-treat” clinic. Last year we cared for around 7,000 patients with hand injuries, facial trauma, burns, dog bites and complex lacerations, often assessing, treating and discharging them on the same day in our dedicated Clean Room.
The Surgical Outpatients department at Hull Royal Infirmary – running alongside trauma, hosting general surgery, breast, vascular, urology and plastics follow-up clinics.
The Plastics Outpatient service at Castle Hill Hospital – including specialist dressing clinics for complex wounds, the Westwood Minor Operations suite, and our highly regarded specialist nursing teams (skin cancer, lymphoedema and research).
You will work closely with two supportive junior sisters (one on each site), consultants, therapists and our wonderful admin teams to keep everything running smoothly while continually raising standards.
Day-to-day you will be very much “hands-on” when needed, but your main focus will be supervising care planning, mentoring staff, developing protocols, managing rotas, auditing outcomes and making sure every patient feels listened to and respected.

Why colleagues love working here
Genuine career progression – many of our Band 7s move on to matron or specialist nursing roles.
Visible, supportive leadership – you will never feel you’re on your own.
Variety – no two days are the same when you cover trauma, elective plastics and complex wound care.
A culture that actively welcomes diversity, new ideas and flexible working requests.
Visa sponsorship
We warmly welcome applications from overseas nurses who need Skilled Worker visa sponsorship – nursing remains on the list of eligible healthcare occupations with favourable salary thresholds and reduced visa fees.
