About the Department
The Department of Translational Neuroscience and Stroke at UCL is committed to advancing understanding of neurological diseases and developing innovative treatments. The team combines expertise in neuroscience, clinical neurology, and computational modelling to translate research into improved patient care.
This role is part of a five-year Medical Research Council-funded programme in Deep Network Modelling in Neuro-oncology, which aims to:
Improve prediction of patient outcomes
Enable personalized treatment planning
Identify disease mechanisms to guide future therapies
The project will apply advanced AI and modelling techniques to large-scale clinical and imaging datasets, within the High-Dimensional Neurology Group, led by Dr James Ruffle.
About the Role
We are seeking an experienced researcher to play a central role in a neuro-oncology research initiative focused on AI-driven modelling of brain tumours.
Key responsibilities include:
Developing and applying advanced network modelling and AI approaches to clinical and imaging data
Managing data governance and curation
Using NLP and multi-modal imaging for high-dimensional data analysis and visualisation
Leading scientific publications and major grant applications
Shaping the strategic direction of the research group
Supervising students and mentoring junior researchers
Collaborating across interdisciplinary teams

Candidate Requirements
Essential:
PhD in Mathematics, Engineering, Computer Science, or Computational Neuroscience
Postdoctoral research experience
Strong record of first-author publications or experience in securing research funding
Expertise in complex computational methods (e.g., machine learning, network neuroscience, or related modelling)
Proficiency in Python programming
Experience working with large, high-dimensional datasets
Personal qualities:
Independent, resourceful, and self-motivated
Passionate about innovation and translational impact
Strong team player in multidisciplinary environments
Visa information: This role is eligible for a Skilled Worker visa or Global Talent visa. International applicants are welcome.
