Job Summary

We are offering an exciting opportunity for a Senior Fellow in Obstetrics & Gynaecology (O&G) to join the team at Princess Anne Hospital, part of University Hospital Southampton NHS Foundation Trust. This post combines clinically focused research with continuing O&G training, including participation in the on-call rota. The role is particularly suited to those aiming to pursue an MD or PhD alongside clinical practice.

Main Duties

Undertake clinical research in obstetrics, gynaecology, and maternal-fetal physiology, working closely with the Developmental Physiology & Medicine group at the University of Southampton.

Contribute to on-call duties and clinical service delivery at Princess Anne Hospital.

Provide patient care across a wide range of women’s health services, including:

Emergency O&G care

Outpatient procedures (hysteroscopy, colposcopy, ultrasound)

Acute gynaecology services

Collaborate with research teams under Professor Ying Cheong within Division C of UHS R&D.

Engage in teaching, audit, and service development as required.

Person Specification

Essential Criteria

Full GMC registration with licence to practise

Currently in training with a recognized training number

Solid knowledge base and clinical judgement skills

Evidence of undergraduate and postgraduate research experience

Ability to work effectively in multi-professional teams

Strong verbal and written communication skills in English

Commitment to Trust values: Patients First, Always Improving, Working Together

Desirable Criteria

MRCOG or equivalent qualification

Higher degree (MD, PhD, or equivalent)

Teaching experience (undergraduate/postgraduate)

Track record of research publications

Additional Information

Postholders will be appointed under local terms and conditions for Trust fellows (non-training).

Salary will follow NHS Medical and Dental pay scales, linked to training grade and experience, with enhancements for additional hours and on-call work.

A named educational supervisor will be assigned.

The Trust strongly supports Continuing Professional Development (CPD) and study leave.
