About the Role

We are seeking a dedicated and proactive Senior Physiotherapist to join our Adult Community Learning Disability Team in Scarborough, Whitby, and Ryedale on a permanent, full-time basis.

This role offers an exciting opportunity to work autonomously while collaborating as part of a multidisciplinary team (MDT) supporting adults with learning disabilities. You will provide assessment, treatment planning, and interventions, working across community settings and engaging with local networks to improve accessibility and quality of care.

You will be supported with clinical supervision, line management, and CPD opportunities, including external training, research, and audit initiatives. Flexible working options will be considered where possible.

Key Responsibilities

Clinical Practice

  • Conduct triage, assessment, care planning, and interventions for adults with learning disabilities, including complex physiotherapy needs.
  • Deliver specialist interventions such as hydrotherapy, postural care, manual handling support, and participation in wheelchair and hospital clinic appointments.
  • Work collaboratively with other healthcare professionals to ensure safe, evidence-based care.

Multidisciplinary Teamwork

  • Be an integral part of a diverse MDT including physiotherapy, occupational therapy, nursing, psychology, speech & language therapy, and psychiatry.
  • Build and maintain professional relationships with mainstream physiotherapy services to ensure equitable access for people with learning disabilities.
  • Engage with the North Yorkshire Learning Disability Physiotherapy Network, covering Harrogate, York, Selby, and surrounding areas, providing occasional cross-cover where required.

Service Development

  • Contribute to the ongoing development of team pathways and service provision.
  • Participate in quality improvement, audit, and evidence-based practice initiatives.
  • Support inclusive and person-centered approaches in all aspects of service delivery.

Essential Qualifications and Experience

  • Qualified Physiotherapist with HCPC registration.
  • Minimum of 12 months post-qualification experience in physiotherapy.
  • Experience working with people with learning disabilities, autism, or mental health conditions.
  • Knowledge of clinical risk assessment and evidence-based practice.
  • Ability to work independently and within a MDT.

Desirable:

  • Postgraduate specialist training in relevant areas (e.g., dysphagia, autism diagnostics).
  • Experience managing complex physiotherapy cases.
  • Prior work in mental health, learning disability, or adult community services.
