About the Role
Nottingham Trent University (NTU) is seeking an experienced and motivated Senior Internal Communications Manager to lead our internal communications team on a 12-month fixed-term contract.
You will manage a team of six and be responsible for delivering effective and engaging communications to a range of internal audiences including students, staff, alumni, and parents. This role sits within the wider CAMS (Communications, Alumni Relations, Marketing and Student Recruitment) department and requires a mix of strategic thinking, team leadership, content expertise, and stakeholder management.
You’ll contribute to high-impact campaigns that improve student engagement and strengthen the NTU community. You’ll also deputise for the Associate Director of Communications as needed, including during crisis communications.
Key Responsibilities
Lead, manage, and develop the internal communications team
Plan and deliver communication strategies for internal stakeholders (students, staff, alumni, and parents)
Balance proactive campaigns with reactive communications needs
Create and oversee campaigns that support student success and university initiatives
Collaborate across departments to ensure alignment of internal messaging
Manage crisis communications when deputising for the Associate Director
Ensure content is accurate, clear, engaging, and aligned with NTU’s brand and goals
Contribute to the development of NTU’s wider communications strategy
What We’re Looking For
Essential:
Proven experience in a senior internal communications role
Strong leadership and team management skills
Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
Strategic thinker with strong attention to detail
Confident in stakeholder engagement and cross-functional collaboration
Desirable:
Experience in a higher education or public sector environment
Knowledge of student communications and community engagement
