The UCL Eastman Dental Institute (EDI) is Europe’s largest postgraduate dental school and a globally recognised centre for excellence in dental education, clinical innovation, and research. As part of UCL – London’s Global University, the Institute brings together clinicians, researchers, and students from across the world to advance oral and dental healthcare.
UCL EDI works in close partnership with the Royal National ENT & Eastman Dental Hospitals (RNENT&EDH), part of University College London Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust (UCLH). Together, they lead nationally and internationally recognised research programmes, including the UK’s only NIHR Biomedical Research Centre (BRC) theme dedicated exclusively to Oral and Dental Medicine, supported by more than £3.5 million in funding.
About the Role
We are seeking a Senior Clinical Research Fellow in Oral Medicine to play a key role in advancing high-quality clinical research within the Oral Medicine Unit. This post offers an exciting opportunity to contribute to investigator-led clinical trials, support postgraduate research training, and strengthen collaborative research across UCL and the NHS.
The post-holder will work closely with clinical colleagues at RNENT&EDH, supporting ongoing and future research studies, contributing to participant recruitment, and helping to expand the Institute’s clinical research portfolio. You will also be involved in supervising research students and supporting the development of research capacity within Oral Medicine.
This is a full-time, open-ended appointment, with funding currently secured until 31 March 2028. Hybrid working arrangements will be agreed flexibly, depending on service and research needs.
A Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check is required for this role.
Key Responsibilities
- Contribute to and support clinical research activity within the Oral Medicine Unit
- Participate in the delivery of clinical trials based at the partner NHS hospital
- Support the supervision and mentorship of postgraduate research students
- Prepare and manage clinical study documentation, including protocols and regulatory submissions
- Collaborate closely with UCL and NHS clinical teams to strengthen translational research
- Assist in expanding research partnerships and funding activity in Oral Medicine
About You
You will be a clinically experienced Oral Medicine specialist with a strong research background and a commitment to advancing patient-centred research.
Essential criteria include:
- A postgraduate qualification in Oral Medicine
- A PhD in a clinically relevant research topic
- Clinical experience managing Oral Medicine conditions
- Experience recruiting participants to clinical research studies or trials
- Proven experience using electronic clinical research databases
- Experience preparing study protocols and NHS REC/HRA submissions
- Registration with the General Dental Council (GDC) or eligibility to register
- You will be comfortable working in multidisciplinary clinical and academic environments and able to communicate effectively with patients, researchers, and clinicians.

- The starting salary for this role is £62,075–£69,734 per annum, dependent on experience.
