About the Role
We are seeking an experienced Security Team Leader to manage our 24/7 security service across the University and Halls of Residence. You will oversee daily operations, staff deployment, and incident response, ensuring the safety and wellbeing of students, staff, and visitors.
This is a hands-on leadership role where you will manage a large team, lead investigations, liaise with external agencies, and deputise for the Head of Security when required. You will play a key role in maintaining operational resilience, developing your team, and driving service improvements.
Key Responsibilities
Lead and supervise the University’s 24/7 security service across all sites.
Manage and develop security staff through training, coaching, and performance reviews.
Take command during incidents, ensuring appropriate decisions and responses.
Oversee investigations into security breaches, crime, and misconduct, producing clear reports.
Manage shift deployments, ensuring full coverage of patrols, control rooms, events, and residences.
Build strong relationships with internal departments and external agencies, including the Police.
Support planning and delivery of security for major University events.
Ensure effective operation of all security systems (CCTV, alarms, access control, radios).
Promote health, safety, and environmental standards across all operations.
Develop and maintain security procedures (SOPs) and training compliance.
Act as key holder, supporting building access, emergency call-outs, and property management.
Person Specification
Essential:
GCSEs (Maths and English A–C or equivalent).
Customer service qualification or equivalent experience.
Full, clean UK driving licence.
Significant experience supervising security teams in a multi-site environment.
Strong people management skills with proven ability to develop and motivate staff.
Experience conducting investigations and writing professional reports.
Excellent communication, decision-making, and conflict management skills.
Competent in digital systems, reporting, and resource management.
Flexible and willing to work across multiple sites.
Desirable:
IT-related qualification.
SIA Door Supervisor or CCTV Licence.
Experience using large-scale security systems.
Presentation or training delivery experience.
