Job Description

About the Role

We are seeking an experienced, compassionate, and qualified School Counsellor to join our dedicated pastoral team. The successful candidate will play a vital role in supporting students’ emotional and mental well-being through confidential, tailored counselling sessions using a variety of evidence-based therapeutic approaches.

You will contribute to our whole-school commitment to safeguarding and student welfare, working closely with pastoral leaders, safeguarding staff, and external agencies as required.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide 1:1 counselling and support for students experiencing emotional, mental health, or personal difficulties

  • Adapt counselling methods to meet the individual needs of diverse students

  • Maintain accurate and confidential records in line with safeguarding and data protection regulations

  • Contribute to the wider pastoral care strategy, attending relevant meetings and offering advice to staff when appropriate

  • Work collaboratively with the Safeguarding and Wellbeing teams

Candidate Requirements

Essential:

  • Recognized counselling qualification (minimum Level 4 Diploma or equivalent)

  • Accredited or working towards accreditation with a recognized professional body (e.g. BACP, UKCP)

  • Experience working with young people in an educational or similar setting

  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to build trust and rapport with students

  • Understanding of safeguarding principles and the ability to manage disclosures appropriately
